AO is an abstract exploration into the Japanese colour word by the same name, which signifies what English-speakers would call Blue and Green. Using traditional and nontraditional mediums, drawing inspiration from the natural environment and the mutable character of the sea, the Artists investigate beyond the surface and into the great depths of AO.

Stellar Show Design_Lightbox_Lo-Res

Designed by Nicole Dalton

Dear Art Lovers & Collectors,

As we reach the end of another year we would like to thank you for your loyal support, patronage & enthusiasm.

According to our annual tradition, 2015 concludes with a salon-style exhibition featuring accessible, affordable artwork across a broad range of mediums by some of Salon Ninety One’s favourite emerging and established local creatives. The exhibition is scheduled to run until the last week of January 2016. Artworks will be rotated regularly & after the opening day, works may be taken home on the day of purchase, so come treat yourself & your loved ones!

This year we will be supporting The Bookery (www.thebookery.org.za). The gallery & artists will be donating 10% of all sales towards building a library & running a creative workshop with the kids at Usasazo Secondary School in Khayelitsha. Everyone is invited to donate books – specifically Xhosa & Afrikaans language, as well as Art-related books.

Please join us on Saturday the 5th of December from 11am until 3pm for our final exhibition of 2015. It is going to be a festive day of STELLAR art, sweet treats by the lovely artist/baker Alice Toich, beer by Leopold7 and so much more…

We look forward to celebrating a truly fantastic year with our artists, friends, and clients.

Warm Regards,
Monique & The Salon Ninety One Team

GRAVITY – A VISUAL EXPLORATION

Dani Loureiro, Cassandra Leigh Johnson, Tess Metcalf, Nina Torr, Mariëtte Bergh, and Maaike Bakker, together with Salon91, present an all-female illustration & multidisciplinary exhibition themed around the idea of ‘Gravity’, a natural phenomenon few have managed to escape. Playing on the idea of opposing gravity, defying it, and also being fascinated by it, the group intends to explore the polarities of destruction, inversion, and attraction. Utilizing a broad range of materials, ‘Gravity’ will be interpreted and expressed in ways unimagined up until now…

ONE IN A MILLION

26.06 – 20.07.2013

oneinamillionlogo2

Group Show – Various Media – Emerging Artists – Salon91

Artists have been challenged by the gallery to create anew / submit a masterpiece that they believe to be a truly once-off original, successful, archetypal example of their practice, which answers to the theme and title phrase ‘One in a Million’. Each artist will only submit one piece. The artists have really let their imaginations run wild with interpretations ranging from ideas around authenticity, rarity, preciousness, love, the night sky, fleeting moments, intricacy, endangered species, statistics & formulas, to the use of sparkly materials / precious metals within their work. Viewers will be presented with what could essentially be a one-in-a-million opportunity to collect a seminal work by an emerging artist.

The exhibition will open on the 26th of June at 18h30.
‘One in a Million’ will feature one work per artist.
Expect to see sculpture, painting, drawing, typography, digitally created works & more …Not to be missed!

Featured Artists include: Dylan Culhane, Jop Kunneke, Katrin Coetzer, Galia Gluckman, Emalie Bingham, Johke, Julia Anastasopoulos, Ambra Gambale of Ambra Fine Jewellery, Hugh Byrne, Kirsten Beets, Elsabé Milandri, Dani Loureiro, Lorenzo Nassimbeni, Mariëtte Bergh, Mieke van der Merwe, Gabrielle Raaff, Jono Dry, Swain Hoogervorst, Adriaan Diedericks, Leigh Tuckniss, Lucie Demoyencourt, Elize Vossgatter, Caroline Mackintosh, Katrine Brink Claassens, Candace di Talamo, Lizelle Kruger, Ceri Louise Müller, Mia Chaplin, Gerhard Human, Bruce Mackay, Friday Jibu, Nicola de Jager, Claudette Maskell, Chris Auret, Paul Senyol & Jade Waller.

Dani Loureiro

Typography and intricate pencil-sketching are Dani Loureiro’s particular passions. In her creative projects, she combines the skills of her trade as an illustrator with transposing her fonts and graphics to mediums such as glass and wood. She excells at an unconventional use of typography and fine line, exploring the endless possibilities that letters offer in terms of their variation and execution. She works on both digital drawing platforms as well as with old fashioned pencil on paper, embracing both the perfection of digital media as well as the imperfections in her hand-drawn work. She is an avid reader. The tone of chosen words inspire their final expression. Loureiro graduated cum laude from the Savannah College of Art and Design in the United States with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Graphic Design. She started her career working for David Carson Design studio in New York City and has worked in design and advertising for the likes of O’Neill in California and Machine Agency in Cape Town. Throughout her career to date, her work has won her numerous awards for design and illustration both locally and internationally. For Loureiro, illustration is about style and telling a story. Dani Loureiro has lived and worked in both South Africa and the United States of America, and is currently based in Portland, USA.
